Some light marking to the edge of the front board, light wear to the base of the spine, small tear to one page of the publisher's catalogue but a very good copy of a novel by a noted plant hunter, explorer and gardener.

Moderate wear to covers mainly at corners with leading corner tips just rubbed through; minor tanning to endpapers with the letters ZYX in faded ink top corner of front pastedown; occasional spots of foxing at foredges; other small pencil notes on front endpaper by the late Ian Jackson including: "(Scouted by Martin Stone)." Stone was a book scout who received a fair amount of national attention. Jackson wrote an article about him for the Book Collector, and both were visitors to Serendipity Books, in Berkeley. Early writing and only novel by Farrer who became a noted traveler and plant hunter. Ian Jackson when I first met him was a noted hunter of books on botany.

First edition in very good condition with slight traces of rubbing and bumping along edges and corners, and faint offsetting on the front flyleaf. Provenance: Paul Lemperly bookplate. Attached handwritten, signed note on Farrer's published works by legendary association books collector Paul Lemperly. Size: 5¾" x 7¾" 0.0. book.

pp.399 plus 16-page publisher's adverts, dated January 1907. 8vo. Hardback. Light foxing to paste-down and title, o/w. contents in fine condition. Some spine lean. Original black cloth boards, with gilt lettering showing some light wear to spine, lightly shelf rubbed, o/w. in vg. condition. Scarce. Reginald Farrer was a plant hunter & botanist, traveller, flower painter and author. Alongside the large number of books he had published recounting his travels, plant collecting and gardening, he was also the published author of several novels which upon their review, received much praise.
