Soft cover. Zustand: New. The Repose of the Spirits is a translation of one of the earliest and most comprehensive treatises on Sufism in the Persian language. Written by Aḥmad Sam'ānī, an expert in Islamic law from a famous Central Asian scholarly family in about the year 1135, it is one of the handful of early Sufi texts available in English and is by far the most accessible. It also may well be the longest and the most accurately translated. Ostensibly a commentary on the divine names, it avoids the abstract discourse of theological nitpicking and explains the human significance of the names with a delightful mix of Quranic verses and sayings of the Prophet and various past teachers, interspersed with original interpretations of the received wisdom. Unlike the usual books on the divine names (such as that of al-Ghazali), The Repose of the Spirits reminds the reader of the later poetical tradition, especially the work of Rumi. The prose is richly embroidered with imagery and interspersed with a great variety of Arabic and Persian poetry. What is especially remarkable is the manner in which the author speaks to his readers about their own personal situations, explaining why they are driven by a love affair with God, a God who is full of compassion and good humor, whether they know it or not.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Moses is one of the most revered Prophets in Islam. The fact that he is mentioned in the Qur?an more than any other figure bespeaks his eminence and the significance of his prophetic narrative to spiritual wayfaring. His election by God and the unfolding events of his prophetic mission have served as a model for Sufi wayfaring. To this effect, God proclaims: I cast upon you a love from Me, that you might be trained under My eye (Q ?aha 20:39).In the Footsteps of Moses is a compilation of spiritual discourses (sing. mudhakara) by the contemporary Moroccan Sufi Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi al-Karkari. This book offers insights into the key events of the life of God's Confidant through the first reading of the divine Name. Describing his life, the Shaykh states: 'When the Hidden Alif or the staff of Moses appears, union discloses itself in separation, and dry land appears in the ocean. The Pharaoh of the lower self drowns in the ocean of esoteric reality, and the Moses of the heart is delivered.' Key events covered include the spiritual significance of Moses' birth; his mother's casting him into the river; being adopted by the Pharaoh's wife; his years of training under the direction of Shu?ayb in the desert of Midian; communing with God at Mount ?ur; the encounter with Pharaoh and his sorcerers; the splitting of the Red Sea; the golden calf; and his encounter with al-Khi?r.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Sufi commentary on the Qur''an by ''Abd al-Razzaq al-Kashani (Ta''wilat al-Qur''an)-long believed to have been written by Muhyi al-Din Ibn ''Arabi (d. 1240)-is one of the masterpieces of Sufi exegesis. It is a complete commentary on the Qur''an, commenting on every chapter but not on every verse. A Sufi Commentary on the Qur''an is the first translation into English of this seminal work. Though little is known about the life of ''Abd al-Razzaq al-Kashani (d. between 1329-35), it is accepted that he studied under Mu''ayyid al-Din al-Jandi, who himself had studied with Sadr al-Din Qunawi, the stepson of Ibn ''Arabi and leading exponent of Akbarian doctrine. Despite the paucity of information on his life, Kashani is recognised for the significant contribution he made to the school of Ibn ''Arabi; his influence and legacy lie in his systemisation of the ideas and thoughts of Ibn ''Arabi. The central theme of Kashani''s commentary on the Qur''an is gnosis or direct experiential knowledge of God: the seeker of the Divine is to engage in dedicated spiritual exertion in conformity with the Sacred Law until the heart becomes illuminated. The Ta''wilat al-Qur''an has been translated in two volumes: Volume I includes the commentary from the first Chapter, The Opening (al-Fatiha), until the eighteenth Chapter, The Cave (al-Kahf); while Volume II includes the commentary from Chapter nineteen, Mary (Maryam), to the end of the Qur''an.…

Neuware - In Mirror of Love, Sufi teacher, Pir Netanel Miles-Yépez, the head of the Inayati-Maimuni lineage of Sufism, offers us a collection of 'glosses' or 'inspirations' based on the mysterious Sufi treatise on mystical love called the Sovane? by A?mad Ghazzali, the founder of the mazhab-i 'eshq, the 'school of love' in Sufism. This first volume, Book II: Commentary, offers Pir Netanel's teachings on the first thirty-three of seventy-seven glosses, explaining how these traditional Sufi teachings relate to relationships, as well as the path of mystical love.…
