Neuware -The objective of the baseline survey was to collect and document the socioeconomic profile, understand existing development stress and opportunities and identify the potential sectors for the implementation of the green economy transition project in Adwa Woreda. In Adwa, land degradation is one of the major stressors and is caused by deforestation, overgrazing, unsustainable agricultural practices, industrialization and urbanization. Rainfall variability, Soil infertility, drought and shortage of improved farming equipment lower crop production. Farmers apply different agricultural interventions to improve productivity. The Woreda has high proportion of landless farming population (24%). Farmers use both renewable and non-renewable energy sources for cooking and other daily activities. About 90-95 % of the households use biomass energy where 100% of it is wood based, thus enhancing land degradation and accelerating climate change. Waste management in the urban areas lack sufficient infrastructure/skilled manpower. Soil pollution by various inorganic and organic contaminants is an ecological risk.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 68 pp. Englisch.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Agriculture is the most important sector in the Woreda. About 60,171ha of land are cultivated for crop production. The total size of cultivated land through irrigation is 8,586ha, which is about 14.3% of the total cultivated land. The potential irrigable land is small (13,800ha), which is about 23% of the total arable land. Cereals (maize, teff, sorghum, wheat and barley) are the most important crops grown in the Woreda. The average productivity of cereals (excluding maize) for East Estie is 19.5 quitals/ha. Improved and local varieties (seeds) of wheat and teff were used in the Woreda and better yield was obtained. The yield for wheat for the improved seed varieties (34.5 quintals/ha) is greater than the yield for local seed crop varieties (23 quintals/ha). The Woreda has high livestock population with cattle to HHs ratio close to 3:1. Sheep to HHs ratio is about 4:1. Improved breeds for poultry, cattle, goat, sheep and donkey are also available. Feed scarcity and poor animal fodder quality are the major problems of the livestock sector.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 52 pp. Englisch.

The total population of Wonsho Woreda is 102,380. The Woreda Agriculture and Early Warning office provides climate related information for the farmer households. The level of private public partnership is at its initial stages though SLMP has started supporting women and youth to establish cooperatives in various income generating schemes such us poultry production, beef fattening, small businesses and activities related to integrated watershed management practices of the selected watershed Kebeles of Wonsho Woreda. The Woreda level planning towards achieving the planned CRGE targets is not adequately done due to capacity and other financial problems. The natural capitals of the Woreda are not properly understood and analyzed while the socio-economic determinants of green growth are not adequately addressed. Agriculture and food, forestry, water, energy and tourism sectors were found to be important for GDP, economic growth in the medium term and green job creation.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 76 pp. Englisch.
