Paperback. Zustand: Good. The Golden Warrior and the bravest man I ever knew. When Dave and I fought together, no matter how severe the action, he would put his hand on my shoulder, and it gave me a calming effect. He was as fi erce in battle as he was gentle in friendship. --Charles E. Eckman, 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Holtwood, Pennsylvania I remember David as a kind, soft-spoken man and was intrigued that he was also Colonel Michaelis' radio operator. All of these men were larger than life Little is known about Michealis because he was in command of the 502nd for such a short, yet important, time. --Peter J. K. Hendrikx, author of Orange is the Color of the Day Pictorial history of the 101st Airborne Liberation of Holland www.heroesatmargraten.com Madame Rolle, owner of Chateau Rolle--a castle located in Champs outside of Bastogne, Belgium, and was designated as the headquarter command post for the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment when she was a young girl--remembered our father operating his radio in her foyer, and said, He was a nice young fellow who kept talking to someone named Roger. --Madame Rolle This collection of letters, written by a young 101st Airborne paratrooper soldier to his sweetheart from 1943-1945, is so personal and matter-offact that I almost forgot that David Clinton Tharp was only one of millions of heroes made by World War I. David Tharp certainly deserves a book like this in his honor, and it deserves to be read and praised. It is a mustread for every American, and especially for veterans of war. --Palmetto Review. …

Paperback. Zustand: Good. Mrs. Julie Hutt's fourth-grade class in Roslyn, New York, writes to a soldier in Iraq to thank him for his service and to find out what it's like to be a U.S. solider: What is a soldier's job exactly? How do soldiers spend their spare time? Don't they miss home? The children's letters were answered by First Lieutenant David Falvey, a twenty-five-year-old military police officer serving in Baghdad with the Army National Guard. Combining the children's letters and artwork with Lt. Falvey's emails and personal photographs, Letters to a Soldier is a special book to be shared in the classroom or at home. An update on Lt. Falvey's safe return home, the status of the war in Iraq, and classroom programs are also included.…

Hardback. Zustand: Good. Blood and anger, bragging and pain, are all part of this young Iowa soldier's vigorous words about war and soldiering. A twenty-year-old farmer from Council Bluffs, Charles O. Musser was one of the 76,000 Iowans who enlisted to wear the blue uniform. He was a prolific writer, penning at least 130 letters home during his term of service with the 29th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Soldier Boy makes a significant contribution to the literature of the common soldier in the Civil War. Moreover, it takes a rare look at the Trans-Mississippi theater, which has traditionally been undervalued by historians. Always Musser dutifully wrote and mailed his letters home. With a commendable eye for historical detail, he told of battles and marches, guerrilla and siege warfare, camp life and garrison soldiering, morale and patriotism, Copperheads and contraband, and Lincoln's reelection and assassination, creating a remarkable account of activities in this almost forgotten backwater of the war.…
