In den Warenkorbdj. First Edition. Small archive of material relating to artist Bernard Reder, including seven letters and a First Edition copy of John I. H. Baur's 1961 monograph on Reder. Archive includes four Manuscript Letters Signed and one Typed Letter Signed from Reder, dated variously between 1955 and 1956, all addressed to his friends…and art patrons, Joseph and Evelyn Isaacson. Enclosed with one manuscript letter is a small ink drawing of a bull signed by Reder and dated 1944 in pencil, with a later inscription to Joseph in ink. Four letters include original stamped airmail envelopes, and one includes a short typed reply, unsigned but apparently from the Isaacsons. Archive also includes a fifth Manuscript Letter Signed from Reder, dated 1949, addressed to Louis Stern, noting his address in Long Island and inviting Stern to visit. Archive also includes a Typed Letter Signed, dated March 20, 1946, on Metropolitan Museum of Art letterhead, from James Johnson Sweeney to Louis Stern, concerning the discovery of Reder's work in the US. Additionally included is an unsigned Manuscript Letter dated 1967, regarding the Charlotte Moorman case and enclosing clippings relating to an earlier Reder sculpture of a nude or topless cellist. Finally, the archive includes a First Edition copy of John I.H. Baur's 1961 monograph on Reder. Born in Czernowitz, Bukovina, artist and architect Bernard Reder frequently drew inspiration from Jewish folklore, Greek mythology, and the Bible. His work was shown internationally, at the Whitney Museum and Philadelphia Museum, and was the subject of a solo exhibition at The Galleria d'Arte Moderno L'Indiano in Florence, Italy. Book Very Good in a Very Good, price-clipped dust jacket. Moderate soil and foxing overall. All other materials generally Very Good plus, with light age toning and wear. Ink drawing Very Good, splitting at the center fold.
