Armstrong was one of the first popular African-American entertainers to "cross over"; whose skin color became secondary to his music in an America that was extremely racially divided at the time.

Signed by Louis Armstrong on the second page, and additionally inscribed by four members of the band on their respective pages: trombonist Trummy Young, "Sincerely Trummy Young;" clarinetist Barney Bigard, "Regards + Barney Bigard;" double-bassist Arvell Shaw, "Best wishes, Arvell Shaw;" and pianist Billy Kyle, "Sincerely, Billy Kyle."
