It incorporates the Proceedings of the Bi-Annual International Theological Conferences of the Department of Theology held in Emanuel…University, Oradea, April and November 2017. The titles of the Conference were: ''The Theology of the Cross,'' and, ''The Doctrine of Justification and Related Themes.'' The papers presented here include those given in person by various colleagues of the Emanuel Faculty; others via a Skype call or by invitation. The International Conferences held by the Department of Theology were made possible through the commitment of members of the Emanuel faculty, the collaboration of Emanuel University Press, the Emanuel ''Ethics and Society'' Research Centre, and the contribution of distinguished colleagues from the Hungarian Baptist Academy, Budapest, The Irish Baptist College, UK and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. The Journal includes a range of papers on the death of Christ and the truth of justification by faith. The Christ hymn (Phil 2:5-11) is here, as is the focus upon the invitation in John 6 to ''eat the flesh of the Son of God'' and to ''drink his blood.'' Also the whole theology of the cross in the Fourth Gospel is considered. Again the concept of redemption in all the Gospels is discussed, as is a paper on the Holy Spirit and the death of Christ from a Pauline perspective. The theme of the cross in the sermons of Philip Doddridge is highlighted, plus two articles on Luther's doctrine of justification and the treatment of this theme by the Reformer in the Epistle of James. These articles include a range of affirmations on crucial doctrines and theological themes which must not be lost or neglected. One remembers the exhortation of 2 Tim 2:1-2 to hold to truths that are fundamental and to entrust them ''to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.'' Hamilton Moore, Editor.

The… title of the Conference was: ''Aspects of Missiological and Theological Thought: Challenges in the Twenty-First Century.'' The papers presented include some given in person by various colleagues of the Emanuel Faculty; others were given via Skype or by invitation. We are grateful for the commitment of members of the Emanuel faculty, the collaboration of Emanuel University Press, the Emanuel ''Ethics and Society'' Research Centre. We are also grateful for the contribution of distinguished colleagues from the Irish Baptist College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. This second issue includes a range of papers on ''Aspects'' of Mission and Theological thought. The Journal opens with a paper on modern definitions of mission and a focus on Paul as a missionary apostle. It discusses his motivation, strategy and the mission churches he founded in Ephesus and Crete. The paper on the Eucharist in Romanian perspective reminds us that the celebration of the Lord's Supper is memorial in character. It brings blessing through comprehending the risen Christ by faith. It also provides an opportunity for a visible act of proclamation of the Lord's death. Theology Journal Papers Other papers in the theology journal focus upon Andrew Fuller, Secretary of the Baptist Missionary Society in 1792. His theological perspective made such an impact on missionary thinking in the nineteenth century. The life and work of Rodger Williams is examined, until his work on Rhode Island. One paper considers Alexander Carson's use of the theme of the atonement as an apologetic tool. The essence of Carson's argument is that the uniqueness of the Gospel with its focus on the atonement, could never have been worked out by the human mind demonstrates the truth of God's existence. There are further papers on Melchizedek, with a particular emphasis of his relation to the pre-existent Christ. Plus a study of the doxologies of 1 Timothy, setting out Paul's various reasons for including them in his letter. They would challenge the heretical teachings in Ephesus and particularly provide the believers with a true understanding of the only true God. Moreover, they would deeply influence their lives and lead them to witness and truly worship him. A further paper on the centrifugal and centripetal aspects of mission presents us with a challenge for reaching this generation. I hope the Proceedings Papers on Mission and Theology will challenge all who read them. Of course, it should be understood that the views presented remain those of the contributors. Neuware - About the Journal This first volume of Semanatorul (The Sower): The Journal of Ministry and Biblical Research, has been produced through the collaboration of Emanuel University Press, the Emanuel ''Ethics and Society'' Research Centre and distinguished colleagues from the Hungarian Baptist Academy.…The publishing efforts were aided by Dr. Almasi Tibor, Rector, Hungarian Baptist Academy. The volume comprises the Proceedings of the International Theological Conference held by the Department of Theology on 6th May 2016 in Emanuel University of Oradea. The theme of the Conference was Hebrews: Its Historical Context and Theological Significance. For many scholars, Hebrews 13:22 gives some guidance concerning the nature of the epistle, ''Bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.'' The suggestion is that the background may be a sermon, given on a certain occasion and then later adapted into letter form with the addition of personal comments at the end. But what of its readers It is thought that the first readers were Hebrews and the camp of 13:13, ancient Judaism. They were Jews attracted to the Christian community and who had identified with it. But Christianity had none of the ''ritual trappings'' they had known, no altar, no priests, no sacrifices. They were meeting ridicule, opposition, imprisonment and being disowned and disinherited by their families (10:32). Some had coped well with this adversity, but others were looking back to the temple from where they had come (10:32-39). Was not Judaism God-ordained The author of Hebrews seeks to set before them the ''better things'' which have become theirs: a better priesthood, better sanctuary, better sacrifice, better covenant, true access to the very presence of the Most High (10:19-21). Also the ''greater things,'' that is: Christ greater than angels, Moses, Joshua, and Aaron. The Proceedings Papers in this Journal will touch upon some of the aspects of the situation outlined above. The significance of the opening verses of Hebrews for the whole epistle is outlined in the opening paper. Other papers focus on the themes endurance, pilgrimage, ''echoes'' in interpretation, a comparison of the epistle with Philo, the significance of ''the time of reformation'' for worship in Hebrews, a semiotic approach regarding Psalm 2 and the profile of the ''Son,'' the concept of repentance and critique of the perspectives of George Milligan regarding the importance of the epistle. Emanuel University continues to be a strong witness as a conservative university in all of Europe.
