Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Text block edge is moderately foxed. Fold out maps are in good condition with a couple of minor tears. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering has become dull. Boards have minor damp and dust stains. Book has a slight forward lean. Board corners are bumped. Sunning to spine and board edges.

Juli) und der vorangegangenen Versuche breiten Raum ein. Von den sieben Erstbesteigern überlebten den Unfall beim Absturz nur Whymper selbst und beiden Bergführer Taugwalder (Vater u. Sohn). Die Illustrationen (Holzstich-Vorlagen) überwiegend nach Vorlagen des Autors. Dieses Werk ist wohl eines der berühmtesten und bekanntesten Berg-Bücher und der alpine Klassiker.
