Bien que nous n'ayons pas trouvé trace de cette édition de Bâle, la première édition a été éditée à Venise, Alde, en 1527 (avec une collation différente). Absent à la BN de France et dans les catalogues français. Oxford possède une édition à la même date. Les catalogues anglais font mention de plusieurs exemplaires à différentes dates. Impression en caractère italique. Belle reliure allemande d'époque sur peau de truie avec fermoirs en parfait état de marche. Dos à 3 nerfs nu avec pièce de titre papier manuscrite à la plume, plats estampés à froid de roulettes en encadrement (rinceaux avec médaillons représentant Erasme de Rotterdam et Philipe de Milan, Martin de Paris, Jean de ? ?). Rectangle central avec motifs d'entrelacs de feuillages en miroir. 2 mouillures sur le plat supérieur ( une de 2cm de diamètre et l'autre de 4 cm dirigées vers l'extérieur). Fraîcheur du papier. Priscien, fut un grammairien romain du VIe siècle ap. J.C, dont le nom latin est priscianus Caesariensis (nom de sa ville natale Césarée, en Mauritanie) On sait en définitive peu de choses de son existence, sinon qu'il professa à Constantinople, et surtout que son ouvrage capital auquel il doit sa célèbrité, les institutiones grammaticae (en 18 livres) devint la référence de la grammaire latine jusqu'à la fin du moyen-âge. Le présent ouvrage est un recueil qui regroupe différentes uvres de Priscien, travaux linguistiques ou traduction d'Hermogène et de Denys le Périgète. | [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS] New edition. Spine with 3 raised bands, unlettered, with handwritten paper lettering piece, boards stamped in blind with decorative rolls in frames (leafy designs with medallions representing Erasmus of Rotterdam and Philip of Milan, Martin of Paris, John of ??). Central rectangle with interlacing foliate mirror patterns. 2 dampstains on the upper board (one 2cm in diameter and the other 4cm extending outward). Fresh paper. Priscian was a Roman grammarian of the 6th century AD, whose Latin name was Priscianus Caesariensis (named after his native city of Caesarea, in Mauritania). Little is ultimately known of his existence, except that he taught in Constantinople, and above all that his major work to which he owes his fame, the Institutiones Grammaticae (in 18 books), became the reference for Latin grammar until the end of the Middle Ages.
