[the book is fairly worn, with a couple of nicks to the cloth at the top of the front cover; the jacket has some shallow chipping along the top and bottom edged, and a couple of small tears (with some paper loss) along the front foldover]. (pen and ink drawings) An attempt, per the jacket blurb, to address what the United States Golf Association considered a serious problem, i.e. that too many golfers were finding the official Rules of Golf to be too complicated and/or bothersome and thus disregarding them: "evident continues to pile up that the rules are either not well known or they are not well understood." Editor Ouimet (one of the great amateur golfers of his day, who won the U.S. Open in 1913, at the age of 20) further tries to drive the point home in his brief introduction: "Golfers should not fail to realize that it is a game of great traditions, of high ideals of sportsmanship, one in which a strict adherance to the rules is essential. Of no less than equal importance is the observance of the regulations pertaining to the etiquette of the game."
