The work peaked in popularity by the 1880s and inspired similar translation efforts in English, Hindi and many other languages.The popularity however came with scepticism, as many debated on the correct interpretation of the philosophy behind the poems. His second book for Harrap, an earlier version of the same title printed in 1909 established his reputation as a book illustrator. Raised bands, gilt spine lettering bright and clean.
