The Royal Engineers by Derek Boyd Summary: Boyd traces the development of the Royal Engineers (RE), or "Sappers," from their early origins through their role in modern warfare. The book shows how the Corps developed from a specialist military-engineering organisation into a highly versatile part of the British Army. The book presents the Royal Engineers as "technical warriors" soldiers who combine engineering knowledge with the ability to operate in combat. Their contribution is often behind the scenes, but armies could not move, communicate, cross obstacles, build defences or sustain operations without them.
