In den Warenkorbpaperback. Zustand: Very Good. Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 2nd Edition. 2nd edition (reset), 1932. Although published by Constable this could be considered the first Samuel French acting edition with their standard fees and licensing information printed opposite the dedication page. Tan-coloured sewn wrappers with flaps and with paper label to the front cover. 86 pages and ads/reviews for Hamilton's novels at the rear of the book. A surprisingly clean and intact copy, internally free from marginalia, annotations, underlining etc. Minor lean, the paper covering at the spine is worn, the paper label entirely missing (the letter "N" stubbornly remains). At the label to the front cover the number "5" has been written and circled in ink. Minor cracking but no loose leaves, toned but not tanned, this is a nice copy of a working book which is likely to have changed hands several times through the years.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A First UK printing published by Constable, London in 1929. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition with original patterned wrappers with flaps. Title labels to the front and the spine. Book retains the publisher's original price to the front flap (2/-). The fragile spine is rubbed and frayed with a little loss to the label edges and to the lower half (see image). The book has a minor lean. The text block is age toned. The front and rear covers show the patterned period design very well. Free from inscriptions. The binding remains tight and the book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. A very scarce title to find as the first issue. In 1948 the book was successfully adapted into what is now seen as a classic film by the director Alfred Hitchcock. Scarce. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Fotografie
Vintage publicity photograph of the Mystery Writers of America's (MWA) endorsement of Hitchcock's 1948 film, showing (right to left) MWA President Lawrence Blockman, author Veronica Parker Johns, Alfred Hitchcock, author Audrey Roos, author Edward Radin, and author Clayton Rawson, with layout annotations and the annotations of names in the margins of the recto. Based on Patrick Hamilton's 1929 play, which was in turn based on a murder committed by Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb in 1924. Two young men living together in a New York apartment decide to kill their former classmate to prove their intellectual and aesthetic superiority. As they grow increasingly daring and proud of their "perfect murder," their close friends and associates begin to suspect something is awry. Hitchcock's first Technicolor feature, one of the director's most experimental films, now rightfully considered an undisputed classic. Set in New York. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good, with light creasing overall, several pinholes near the extremities, and cello tape repairs to the verso and the right margin of the recto. Grant US. Rosenbaum 1000. Selby US. Spicer US.
