First edition thus, a transcript of the proceedings of the Carlisle Peace Commission, a group including Adam Ferguson, sent to America in April 1778 by the British Government in order to put an end to the American Revolutionary War. The transcript is made from one of three known copies, that belonging to Edinburgh University Library, which is labelled as "Proceedings of the British Commissioners at Philadelphia, 1778-9" and is written partly in Adam Ferguson's hand (Edinburgh University Library Ms. Dc. 1.6). The transcription, which was previously published in two parts in Research Reports of the Department of International Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Economics, Kochi University, in 2006, and subsequently collected and published as the Kakenhi Supplemental Project Research Report by Kyoto University in 2007, is here published with an introduction by the editors and an appendix comprising a facsimile reprint of Adam Ferguson's "Remarks on a Pamphlet lately published by Doctor Price." in 1776.
