Small 4to, pp. [ii],60; a little browned on title and last page, a few margins somewhat torn, but generally a good copy. Dryden and Lee's Duke of Guise was first performed in 1683, but even before the printed version was published, two replies appeared, one ascribed to Thomas Hunt and Elkanah Settle (the Reflections named here on the title page). In his preface to the play Dryden promised to publish his defence of the play and despite advice from his co-author not to reply he issued this extenuation the same year. Macdonald 130; Wing D2398.
