Dustjacket. 180pp. Minor wear to extremities and spine ends, some discoloration of the cloth and oxidization of the gilt, strong and tight, internally clean and fresh; in a bright, priceclipped dustjacket (original 18/- price label retained), with a little toning to the spine panel and some soiling to the white portions. A very good copy indeed. The UK's New Naturalist series was instituted in 1945 to educate the British public as to the diversity and beauty of nature in the British Isles. Extremely popular, to date it numbers 149 titles in its original series, and numerous offshooots and monologues by distingished authorities. Throughout the 1960's and 70's the Collins New Naturalist library was credited with inspiring numerous scientists, environmentalists, and biologists to enter their chosen careers, bringing a blend of academic rigor, aesthetic appreciation, and lavish illustration into the home libraries of several generations of British families. Outside of academia the series became known for their beautifully designed dustjackets, with most of the early titles being illustrated by Rosemary and Clifford Ellis.
