This detailed description of the biology and the behaviour of the charming Redstart was written by a scholar, university teacher, poet and an ornithologist who played a significant part in the development of ornithology in Britain in the years immediately after World War II. An excellent copy, scare in this condition.

A very good copy indeed. The UK's New Naturalist series was instituted in 1945 to educate the British public as to the diversity and beauty of nature in the British Isles. Extremely popular, to date it numbers 149 titles in its original series, and numerous offshooots and monologues by distingished authorities. Throughout the 1960's and 70's the Collins New Naturalist library was credited with inspiring numerous scientists, environmentalists, and biologists to enter their chosen careers, bringing a blend of academic rigor, aesthetic appreciation, and lavish illustration into the home libraries of several generations of British families. Outside of academia the series became known for their beautifully designed dustjackets, with most of the early titles being illustrated by Rosemary and Clifford Ellis.
