Contemporary marbled calf, rubbed, the front joint split and the rear rubbed, mull repair at the gutter of the front flyleaf verso. Signature of John Jackson dated 1806 on the pastedown together with contemporary arithmetical calculations on the front and rear endleaves. A nice, provincially printed edition of a ready-reckoner which ran through many editions in a long publishing history. Sometimes this work is catalogued under Fenning, while other catalogues place it under Leybourne, who died in 1716 - a further clue, if needed, as to its long-standing esteem. Editions were published in North America in the second half of the 18th century and it was still going strong well into the 19th. Crosby was the headmaster of the York Charity School, edited the York edition of Walkingame's Tutor's Assistant and wrote the key to `that excellent Publication.'.
