Softcover. Zustand: Very Good. Quarto, 158 pages, illustrated in black and white. Through the underlinings, emendations, and other marginalia common to early modern readers, this title shows the variety of ways in which readers have related to books over the centuries. The use of books as repositories of birth records, and marginalia (scholarly, esoteric, and profane) is also examined.

In den WarenkorbSingle sheet, (265mm.), Letterpress on wove crepe paper. 29 lines within an ornamental frame and surmounted by a crude woodcut of a woman slapping a man. A good survival given the quality of the paper, a fragment torn from the tail-left corner with minimal loss of the frame, several creases - particularly at the edges, and with several small ink stains not affecting the printed area. Printed by Green Atkinson who was at the High Row address in Darlington between 1819 and 1830. A member of a north-east book trades family who was described by one commercial representative as also selling roasted corn, he eventually moved to London before emigrating to Australia around 1842.
