Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. Charles M. Todd (Typography) (illustrator). The format is approximately 5.625 inches by 8.25 inches. [10], 211, [1] pages. The dust jacket has wear, tears, soiling, chips, and scuffs. The dust jacket has moisture stains on the inside. Minor impact on the cover, which has a design on the front and lettering on the spine. A novel about a future solar system with a conflict between inhabitants of Earth and Spacers, with the Spacers continually needing to raid Earth for their survival. Nourse's *The Bladerunner* novel lent its name to the *Blade Runner* film. Alan Edward Nourse (August 11, 1928 July 19, 1992) was an American science fiction writer and physician. He wrote both juvenile and adult science fiction, as well as nonfiction works about medicine and science. His SF works sometimes focused on medicine and/or psionics. His most notable pen name was Doctor X. He used this pseudonym when writing for a medical column in a science fiction magazine, allowing him to combine his expertise in medicine with his passion for science fiction. He had helped pay for his medical education by writing science fiction for magazines. After retiring from medicine, he continued writing. His regular column in Good Housekeeping magazine earned him the nickname "Family Doctor". He was a friend of fellow author Avram Davidson. Robert A. Heinlein dedicated his 1964 novel Farnham's Freehold to Nourse. Heinlein in part dedicated his 1982 novel Friday to Nourse's wife Ann. The human race is divided into the Spacers and those who still remain on earth. There is a constant low-level war between the two groups, with the Spacers raiding earth for supplies and for women. The war turns hot and three teenagers, one Spacer and two from Earth, must find a way to bring peace. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing.
