This work is an expansion on Amery's articles on the conduct of the Second Boer War for The Times. Signed by Amery to the front endpaper, 'H A Sargeaunt from L.S.A' Sargeaunt was a fellow correspondent, who wro…te many articles on Foreign affairs and co-authored 'Grand Strategy: The Search for Victory'. Amery was known for his opposition to appeasement, and his interest in military preparedness. During the Second Boer War, he was a correspondent for The Times. His attack of the commander Sir Redvers Henry Buller contributed to his sacking. He was the only correspondent to visit Boer forces. This work advocates for the reorganisation of the British Army, as the Boer War had exposed deficiencies in its practice. Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'This book is the property of H A Sargeaunt who has kindly loaned it to A O R G Library. Please take care of it as you would one of your own books'. An important work, which outlines some critical points on army reform, by someone who observed the conduct of the institution first-hand. In the publisher's original cloth binding.
