He joined up as a Private in the First World War, was wounded and invalided out and later rejoined as a chaplain. The book contains extracts from his diary, and is divided into the following two parts: Part 1 - Edinburgh to Voormezeele, Feb 23rd to March 26th; Part 2 - Ypres, March 26th to May 27th. An appendix contains 4 letters of another "B" Coy. Private. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the free endpapers and a name and date has been written on the front free endpaper.
