Neuware - 'His prose takes on an almost biblical quality, hallucinatory in its effect and evangelical in its power' - Stephen King, author of The Shining and the Dark Tower series'All the Pretty Horses is indisputably a masterpiece' - Financial Times1949. At sixteen years-old, John Grady Cole is the last bewildered survivor of long generations of Texas ranchers. Finding himself cut off from the only life he has ever wanted, he sets out for Mexico with his friend Lacey Rawlins. Befriending a third boy on the way, they find a country beyond their imagining: barren and beautiful, rugged yet cruelly civilized; a place where dreams are paid for in blood.A grand love story, Cormac McCarthy's novel is about the passing of childhood, of innocence and a vanished American age. Steeped in the wisdom that comes only from loss, it is a magnificent parable of responsibility, revenge and survival.'One of the greatest American novels of this or any time' - Guardian'[A] totalizing reality, where meditation and resistance are two components of one reality, a destiny of wandering the borderlands of the U.S. and Mexico in the postwar twentieth century' - Rachel Kushner, author of The Mars RoomAdapted into a film starring Matt Damon and Penélope Cruz. All the Pretty Horses is followed in the Border Trilogy by The Crossing and Cities of the Plain.Part of the Picador Collection, a series showcasing the best of modern literature.Praise for Cormac McCarthy:'McCarthy worked close to some religious impulse, his books were terrifying and absolute' - Anne Enright, author of The Green Road and The Wren, The Wren'[I]n presenting the darker human impulses in his rich prose, [McCarthy] showed readers the necessity of facing up to existence' - Annie Proulx, author of Brokeback Mountain 309 pp. Englisch.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. FIRST EDITIONS. 1st impressions. Three Volumes. 8vo. (8.6 x 6.1 inches). Fine, bright copies in the publishers fine original dustwrappers, designed by Chip Kidd. A fine set of true first editons of this hugely popular trilogy. There is some confusion about a probable trial issue dustwrapper for the first title, with no advance praise notices on the lower panel and lacking the blue capital letter 'A' at the start of the blurb inside the front flap. This wrapper was not officially issued with the published book. The first edition wrapper, as issued on day of publication, has the price of $21.00 on the inner front flap and the number code '5/92' at the bottom of the inner rear flap. The wrapper on All the Pretty horses in this set has both of these points.

First edition, early printing of McCarthy's classic trilogy, appearing here in one volume for the first time. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Cormac McCarthy on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket photograph by Mario Ettlinger. Jacket design by Barbara de Wilde. McCarthy's award-winning and best-selling trio of novels, The Border Trilogy, constitutes a genuine American epic. The young men in these novels come of age on Southwestern ranches in the 1930's, while across the border, Mexico beckons them with its desolate beauty and the cruel promise of a place where dreams are paid for in blood. The San Francisco Chronicle calls the trilogy "An American classic to stand with the finest literary achievements of the century" and the Chicago Tribune exclaimed, "Make a place on your bookshelf. If you love classic narrative, quest stories, adventure stories of high order transformed by one of the lapidary masters of contemporary American fiction, now is your hour of triumph.".

First edition and first printings. Harcovers. McCarthy's acclaimed trilogy of novels. All three books in near fine condition or better and in very near fine dust jacket. "All The Pretty Horses" is signed by McCarthy on the half title page and includes a handwritten note from Gary Fisketjon presenting it to a publisher representative. "The Crossing" and "Cities of the Plain" are both signed by McCarthy on tipped in pages done by the publisher. Signed sets are uncommon as McCarthy while not being a recluse didn't do public events or readings for the majority of his later years. A lovely set obtained directly from a publisher representative.
