Cloth. Zustand: Good Only. None (illustrator). The collected poetical works of Reginald Heber, Felicia Hemans and Robert Pollok. Including a Memoir of Heber followed by his poetical works, The Course of Time, A Poem in Ten Books by Pollok and The Poetical Works of Mrs. Felicia Hemans. Three volumes bound in one complete. Reginald Heber (21 April 1783 - 3 April 1826) was the Church of England's Bishop of Calcutta (a bishopric now part of the Church of North India) who is now remembered chiefly as a hymn-writer. Heber's hymns and other poems have style, pathos and soaring aspiration. Felicia Hemans (25 September 1793 - 16 May 1835) was an English poet. Hemans' works appeared in nineteen individual books during her lifetime. After her death in 1835 they were republished widely, usually as collections of individual lyrics and not the longer, annotated works and integrated series that made up her books. For surviving women poets, she was a valued model; and for male poets including Tennyson and Longfellow, an influence less acknowledged. To many readers she offered a woman's voice confiding a woman's trials; to others a lyricism apparently consonant with Victorian chauvinism and sentimentality. Robert Pollok (c. 1798 - 15 September 1827) was a Scottish poet best known for The Course of Time, published the year of his death, a ten-book poem in blank verse, first published in 1827. The first edition of the poem sold 12,000 copies, and by its fourth edition it had sold 78,000 copies and become well known even in North America. In a cloth binding. Externally, generally sound but with bumping and wear to extremities. With staining and marks to boards and with facing to spine and marginally to boards. Hinges slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound and foxed throughout. With very slight loss and closed tear to front blank. Good Only. book.
