John Greenleaf Whittier (1807- 1892) was an influential American Quaker poet and ardent advocate of the abolition of slavery in the United States. He is usually listed as one of the Fireside Poets. With the bookplate of one Colin Henry Mann to front pastedown. In a fine Oxford binding, with binder's stamp to rear of front pastedown. In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, generally smart, some minor wear to extremities and raised bands of spine. Very light loss to leather at one vertice. Internally, firmly bound. bright and clean throughout with only the very occasional mark or spot. Very Good. book.

Edited by William Garrett Horder, an English pastor and scholar. Bound in half red crushed morocco with red cloth boards. Externally, very smart with fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. Spine discoloured to brown but still pleasing; boards clean and unworn. Ink owner's inscription to early page, otherwise internally clean. This is a beautiful Riviere binding. Small 8vo.
