In den WarenkorbFirst English Language Edition. Octavo. Publisher's dark blue rexine titled in red and gilt to spine. Dustjacket. [xviii]; 624pp. Clean and bright, a little bumped to spine ends and with some light wear to the corners; internally clean, bookplate to front pastedown, neat pencil annotation and marginalia throughout, inscribed to half title; in a clean dustjacket with some mild toning to the spine panel, shallow fraying and chipping to the spine ends and edges, a couple of closed tears, and some tape reinforcement to verso. Shows very well, a very good copy of an unwieldy book whose dustjacket has seen some wear. From the library of Nathaniel Tarn, noted poet, translator, and professor of anthropology, with his bookplate and pencil annotations. Inscribed to Tarn by the work's translator: "For Nathaniel Tarn, with all good wishes, from Michael Hamburger June 1967" The first appearance of these Holderlin pieces in English, here presented in a bilingual English/German format, which has given Professor Tarn the oportunity for some amendements and differences of opinion regarding the translation work.
