A very scarce work from the Religious Tract society chap-book series. This work is number '7' as indicated by the '7' to the title page. 'The Pleasing Instructor' is a work in moral guidance, intended to offer short and quick moral lessons to those who read it. Illustrated throughout, including a plate to the rear wrap. Written by Ann Fisher, a grammarian who publisher 'A New Grammar' in 1745, which went through many editions and was very popular. She also wrote 'New English Tutor' and 'Spelling Dictionary'. Undated, dated using WorldCat entries, of which there are three entries. Collated according to worldcat entries, this copy also has fifteen pages and an illustrated woodcut to the rear. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, worn. Closed tear to the front wrap. Light marking to the wraps causing just a little discolouration. Rear wrap is lifting to the head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. Good Only. book.

"Thoughts on education, by way of introduction." at front signed A. Fisher (Ann Fisher Slack). Period calf with partial leather title lable to spine. Front flyleaf has the top 1/3 clipped away presumably to remove ownership; a chip and closed tear to the bottom edge of the same leaf. Contents complete and decent with usual and expected general toning and occasional spotting. Leather crazed somewhat over the spine; some shallow gnawing to the front edge of the lower board. [Evans 29518; Sabin 63412] Uncommon early American imprint of this British pedagogical collection. Good thus.
