Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Plants interact with microbes in many different ways and on many different levels. The most obvious interaction results in plant disease, which can be a severe threat to the global food supply. Therefore, research strives to uncover the mechanisms of host plant invasion, learn about the weapons used by pathogenic microbes, and understand the defense strategies of the affected plants. On the other hand, many interactions with the plant are indeed beneficial for the plant, increasing its ability to recruit limiting nutrients from the soil, preventing the growth of more detrimental microbes, or making the plant more resistant to abiotic stresses. Plants also serve as habitats for microbes that may colonize apoplastic spaces within leaves, may live on plant surfaces, or may prosper in the immediate vicinity of plant organs (e.g., in the rhizosoil). In this book, one editorial, two review articles, and twelve original research articles highlight the newest research endeavors on plants interacting with beneficial microbes, having to cope with detrimental microbes, or hosting complete microbiomes. Together, these articles contribute to the knowledge essential for the development of strategies that will prepare our plants to withstand the increasingly harsh conditions they will be exposed to in the coming years of climate change.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book covers the most recent advances in all the topics with which researchers and professionals need to be familiar in order to obtain a better understanding of, and to better exploit, beneficial plant-microbe interactions. The use of microorganisms for agriculture and environmental applications is gaining importance worldwide to improve crop performance, but also for other environmental applications, such as bioremediation in chemically polluted soils. The search for an equilibrium between fundamental and applied aspects makes this book useful for professionals at various levels in the value chain of the 'microbial biofertilizers'. Challenges of comercializing biofertilizers involve efficiency of the products and safety for human health and the environment, topics that have paid central attention in this book. Students, scientists and biofertilizers developers will find updated and comprehensive information about the different aspects to be considered to address a successful introduction of biofertilizers in sustainable agriculture and environmental actions.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book offers a thorough understanding of the useful, functional, and intentional applications of plant microbe interactions. The majority of interactions between microbes and plants are mutualistic, and they help to improve the condition of the soil and the surrounding environment. The use of this in sustainable environmental management is one important feature. Through a process known as phytoremediation, plants are known to be involved in the repair of polluted environments. This process is typically more effective when carried out in conjunction with microorganisms that live in the plant environment. These microbes and plants have qualities that make them excellent choices for environmentally damaged areas that need to be sustainably remedied. Bioremediation and phytoremediation have been used to remove various organic and inorganic contaminants from the environment. Certain characteristics of the microbes associated with plants have a selective effect on plant growth, and as a result, the plants carry out the detoxification process through various mechanisms. These drawbacks include the fact that contaminant-induced stress typically results in low/slow rates of seed germination, plant development, and declines in plant biomass. The book provides examples of how plant microbe interactions might be used in an environmentally sustainable way to degrade contaminants and restore strained soils. It also determines the causes of the microbial-based inoculants' unsatisfactory effectiveness. It has been discussed how biotechnological methods can be used to build next-generation bioformulations that can overcome previous obstacles and meet new problems. If correctly utilized, this amazing relationship between microbes and plants will not only improve crop yields and help restore desolate places, but it will also improve the quality of life for everyone on Earth. This book is intended to be a practical book for researchers and students working in the fields of agriculture, microbiology, plant science, and environmental science.
