Exax was educated at the Art Institute of Experimental Graphics (Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt) under Rudolf von Larisch , among others. from 1914 to 1917 he was a War Photographer for the Austrian Army and some of his photos can be seen in many newspapers from those days.from 1921 to 1925 he moved first to Greece and then to Italy where he worked as a Freelance Graphic Artist.after returning to Vienna, he founded his own company that didn't bring him the desired results, so he opened a new studio named 'Exax-Antl' where he worked until 1945 when he moved to Carinthia , continuing to work as a graphic artist.
