Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In 1968, near the end of his life, Picasso made 347 etchings that show his interest in television and film, wrestling, and the female nude. Some of the prints refer to old Celestina, the cunning marriage arranger featured in Fernando de Rojas's play. Others investigate the aging process, voyeurism, the orientalized setting of the harem, and explicit lovemaking as the Pope looks on. When the etchings were exhibited in Paris, and later Chicago, there was heated controversy on their status as pornography. In both cities the works were censored. Memory Holloway examines Suite 347 as a summary of the themes of Picasso's work, set in the context of the student conflicts of May 1968 and his continuing experimentation as a printmaker.

Le catalogue reproduit l'intégralité de la Suite 347 de Picasso, propriété de la banque Bancaja de Valence, qui a fait l'objet d'une grande exposition organisée par la municipalité de Crémone au printemps 2009. La Suite 347, la plus importante des oeuvres de Picasso, a été achevée en seulement sept mois en 1968, à Mougins, en France. Il est composé de quatre grands noyaux thématiques : La Celestina, ou les estampes sélectionnées par Picasso pour une édition de la Celestina de Fernando de Rojas, publiée par l'atelier Crommelynck en 1971 ; Picasso, son oeuvre et son public, une sorte de présentation des sujets principaux et de toutes les techniques et styles utilisés ; Mythologie et cirque, dans lequel La mythologie méditerranéenne et les thèmes traditionnels de Picasso émergent : Don Quichotte, les personnages de Rembrandt, Raphaël, les artimons, etc. Le peintre et les modèles, gravures qui renvoient à des thèmes de la Suite Vollard et à ceux repris dans la Suite 156 avec Degas et Poussin dans le rôle des voyeurs, des mousquetaires et des Rembrandtiennes.
