First Edition. 8 1/4 x 11 inches (board dimensions) An original high gloss photographic print of a generic valentines candy box mounted on board that has been over-painted with some new details and highlights resulting in a camera-ready image. Likely used as a newspaper advertisement or catalog illustration. In very good original condition with minor blemishes and pinholes in the margins. It would look great framed. We were unable to find much about the F.H. Roberts Co. NOT the Japanese candy manufacturer in business today, F. H. Roberts & Co. was apparently started in the first decade of the 20th century, and was sold by the founder around 1960. We found an advertisement for their candies in Vanity Fair in 1928 showing them at 128 Cross St. in Boston, MA. This advertisement strikes us as far less fancy than that period's work, so perhaps later (the 1940s/50s?). We obtained this original art with other candy box art from Boston and Cambridge area companies and so feel confident attributing it to F.H. Roberts Co.

Likely used as a newspaper advertisement or catalog illustration. The Page and Shaw logo includes the New York, Boston, London, Los Angeles, and Paris as locations. In very good original condition with a few small blemishes and several pin-holes on the right-hand margin. It would look great framed. "Page & Shaw was one of the largest candy manufacturers in the United States, active from 1888 until about 1960. Page & Shaw started as a small shop at 9 West Street in Boston, then in 1911 opened a major factory on Ames Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with branch stores in England, France, and Canada. In 1918 its factory and five stores were shut down by the Federal Food Board for one week because the company kept a larger quantity of sugar on hand than was permitted by the United States Food Administration. Around 1920, Boston lawyer Otis Emerson Dunham acquired control of the company. He began an aggressive plan of expansion. By 1924 sales reached a peak of 2,200,000 pounds of chocolate per year. At its height, the company operated thirty-five shops as well as candy factories in Cambridge, New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Montreal, and London, and produced more than 6,000,000 pounds of chocolate candies annually in its Cambridge factory. After the stock market crash of 1929, business slumped badly, and under Dunham's direction, it started to give away one share of common stock with every $2 worth of candy. In 1930 Dunham and two stockbrokers were found guilty of conspiracy in raising $2,000,000 for Page & Shaw stock, of which they kept half for themselves. That same year, the company went bankrupt and was bought by Daggett Co. in 1931, which in turn was bought by Necco in 1960. Page & Shaw chocolates were discontinued at about that time. MIT's Wiesner Building now occupies Page & Shaw's former factory site on Ames Street [in Cambridge, Massachusetts]." (Wikipedia).

Scott Redford Artists Book comprised of numerous pages excised from the 'Art Galleries' section of a German art magazine across which Redford has written the word 'Photo' in pink texta, all contained in a shallow plastic document box, titled 'Berlin Dec 2016 SR in black texta to top of box; unlike 'Blue Photo' the pictures here follow a consistent aesthetic, being made up of conceptual and abstract art images; on occasion the text 'Photo' is extended to include the name of the artist in question, e.g. 'Photo Keith', with the words sometimes written in reverse, presumably to view the image over one's shoulder in a mirror, or to reference mirror writing (?) . . .

Beautiful, well-made photo album with working music box, incl. key. Rare book curiosity with fully functional mechanical music box. No maker or year. The cylinder of the music box is visible through an arched window, a second window with (renewed) lid opens a box for storing the key to wind it up. Size: 11 x 8.5 x 3 3/4 inches. Colored lithographed title page. Album with 28 turn of the century portrait photographs of various sizes, various origin (see list below). Original leather, front cover richly gilt, with raised gilded corner fleurons and center decoration, all paper edges gilt, rear cover with pattern and with rounded nails in corners as support, ring-shaped clasp. The quality of the sound of the music box is quite amazing. Light shelf-wear to cover. Some spotting on the photo pages, light damage to a few of the photo pockets.
