The Dutch company Philips was founded in the Netherlands in 1891 by father and son Frederik and Gerard Philips and is one of the largest lighting manufacturers in the world; the Philips shield logo was introduced in 1938 and used in varying designs until 2013; the company's lamp and lights division Philips Lighting became an independent company in 2016 and was renamed Signify N.V. in 2018.
