All volumes but 'The Trout' have the prior owner's inscription to the half-title. 'The Partridge' has several newspaper articles on hunting this particular fowl loosely inserted to the rear. Contents pages to 'The Trout' have been removed by a previous owner. In uniform full cloth bindings. Externally, smart with just some minor bumping to the head and tail of spines and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spines, resulting in the red lettering to spines to fade slightly. Pasted to the recto of front endpaper of all volumes but 'Trout' is a small saying clipped from a newspaper regarding lending books. Blind stamp to the front endpapers for W H Smith and Son. Prior owner's inscription to the half-title of all but 'Trout' volume, R J Ratcliff. Gift inscription to the verso of front endpaper to 'Trout' from an individual named Clifford. 'The Pheasant', 'The Trout' and 'The Hare' are firmly bound. The remaining three volumes have some straining to binding. Pages are generally bright. Occasional pencil annotation and underlining to all volumes by a previous owner. Scattered spotting throughout all volumes, slightly heavier to 'The Hare', 'The Partridge' and 'The Pheasant'.
