Paneled spine has chipping, and cracking along the joint edges. Brown leather has been significantly peeled away, exposing the boards. Bumping to corners, leaving the boards visible, and significant wear to extremities. The front pastedown is partially detached, revealing the interior front board and ex libris bookplate of Penrhyn Chave. Satyricon oder Satyrikon ist ein nur in Teilen erhaltener satirischer Roman von Titus Petronius Arbiter (um 1466 n. Chr.) in lateinischer Sprache, der zur Zeit Neros erschien. Eingestreut in den Text erscheinen dreiunddreißig Gedichte unterschiedlicher Länge. Kurze einzeilige Epigramme (Satyricon 58,8) stehen den Gedichten von Troia (Satyricon 89) und dem Bürgerkrieg (Satyricon 119124) mit 295 Versen gegenüber. Daneben finden sich an prägnanter Stelle vier kurze Vergil-Zitate. Die Qualität von Petrons Gedichten wird hoch gerühmt. Der bekannte Philologe Stowasser zählt sie zu dem Besten, was jemals in lateinischer Sprache hervorgebracht wurde. First edition of this by Burman new compilate of older printed editions and comments of Petronius. A new edition in two parts was printed in 1743 and a third in 1781. The notes are to a large extant based on Heinsius and Schefferus. Petrus Burman (senior), (1668-1741) famous Dutch philologist. His report is without gods and was long the leading view of Troy during the Middle Ages and early modern times. According to Dictys it was the Trojans and not the Myceneaens who triggered the war.These alternative rewritings of the Trojan myth by Dictys and Dares are among the most interesting and mysterious works of Late Antiquity.
