Hardcover. Zustand: Good. An early cartographic game issued after the Civil War. Housed in a paper-covered cardboard box with lithographed red printed cover. Approximately 6 by 8 inches in size. Box contains 9 equal-sized sections which piece together to form a total map of the United States circa 1868. Each section is hand-colored and mounted on heavy cardboard. The sections have small holes in each of the states and there are 76 small game pieces to fit in these holes consisting of state names, capitals, major cities, etc. This game is complete with all pieces except for the 4-page booklet with instructions which came with it. The map has various engraved vignettes and shows the Dakota and Indian Territories. In terms of condition the box has some wear to the sides, both top and bottom, and some pencil writing on the inside portion of the top and both sides of the bottom. The 9 map sections are good with some spotting and foxing. The game pieces, all of which are present, are good with some thumbwear. A scarce item.
