This is a Very Good Copy of this Book in brown quarter Leather binding over marbled boards with black moroccan title label to the 2nd compartment down spine lettered in gilt.There are 2 partially coloured folding maps one of the action near Coruna in 1809 and one larger map of Spain and Portugal with the marching of the British Columns.Binding is firm with some foxing to the preliminary pages,title pages etc,some marbling to the text block edges.There is some wear to head of spine and slight lifting of leather to that section,corners of the book are rubbed and worn a little. The third edition of this work, printed the same year as the first. Illustrated, with two hand-coloured folding maps. Sir John Moore was known for his military training reforms. He first joined the British Army in 1776 and his first battle was the 1778 American War of Independence. He worked his way through the ranks and in 1803 established an innovative training regime that produced Britain's first light infantry regiments. This work focuses on Sir John Moore's command of British forces in Spain, most notably the Battle of Corunna. This battle took place on 16 January whereby a French corps under Marshal of the Empire Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult attacked Moore's army. This battle was a result of a French campaign led by Napoleon. Moore passed away in this battle following a fatal wound caused by a cannon shot. With the errata. Collated, complete. This work is formed of Moore's letters and papers to various individuals during his time on the campaign and is therefore a very important historical source regarding this battle. The letters have been edited by Moore's brother James, who writes to the dedication 'being unable to write what was worthy of him, I have collected the facts, and arranged the materials, to enable Historians to do him justice.'
