Highly important Original "Top Secret" Invasion map of Luc-Sur-Mer providing as complete a picture as possible of the German Beach defences and those immediately inland. This was part of Sword Beach, on D-Day troops from the 3rd Infantry Division, including 46th Royal Marine Commando and 1st South Lancashire Regiment landed in the area and a German Armoured Group briefly entered the town before retreating. The paper map which has a scale of 1:12500 shows all the Artillery, MG, Mine and trench defences together with strong points etc.,Also all exits from the beach, dimensions of seawalls are highlighted in red. This is noted as Sheet no 85 second edition, information as at May 44. Details which are confirmed are in blue and purple indicated unconfirmed. On the rear of the map is a very detailed Defence legend, effectively a key to the symbols on the map itself, though many of course are self evident. Size c. 85cms x 48cms. Map is paper and has been folded, in remarkable condition, both clear and undamaged. A very rare piece of D-Day history.
