Hardback. Zustand: Good. Sister wished for a cat for her birthday, but she got Dudley instead. Dudley is all dog, and he likes to chase cats. Dudley chases one, two, three cats and more across a busy street, down the railroad tracks, past a skunk, through a construction site, past a bumblebee nest, into a burning building, around a swimming pool, through a thunderstorm, and all the way to the circus, where the cats are called tigers. Bad dog! Does he think he has nine lives like a cat? Maybe so, in this delightfully zany tale of poetic justice and birthday wishes come true. …

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. How does a boy labeled slow go on to graduate with honors and distinction-not only from college, but then earn a PhD and his medical degree? How does a doctor with severe colorblindness become a renowned surgeon? How does a surgeon dedicated to saving patients on the verge of death respond when told his own death is imminent? Paul Nemiroff was a boy who dreamed of becoming a doctor. Labeled slow and told he would never finish high school, he overcame numerous obstacles and went on to college, a masters, a PhD and medical school. He became a top head and neck surgeon at leading medical centers, a pioneer of hyperbaric oxygen wound treatment, a worldwide published researcher and lecturer, an award winning TV medical correspondent, and a runner of 13 marathons. At the peak of his career, his life trajectory was abruptly altered when he received a call-he had become the patient and was told he only had two years to live-facing a crossroads of formidable choices. Undaunted, Dr. Paul discovered and experimented with a revolutionary treatment protocol that he believes has kept him alive and in reasonably good health for 15 years-allowing him to share this knowledge which he hopes will inspire others and be a catalyst in the quest for a cure.…

Hardback. Zustand: Good. Virtually every problem with the modern American mode of living stems from three major cultural characteristics: a pathological attachment to the automobile, a horrifying apathy toward the obesity epidemic, and a deeply engrained fetishization of employment. This should be plain to anyone paying attention, but it's especially clear if you sell your car and spend six gruelling months riding public transit in Dallas, Texas, arguably the nation's most regrettable example of urban dysfunction. For the better part of a year, I got on the train in one of the biggest cities in the wealthiest nation of all time, only to find myself surrounded by people who are either homeless or commuting to a job that hardly keeps them above the poverty line. Most of them are morbidly obese, and those who aren't are only slim because of heroin or some other destructive analgesic. This country is in shambles for reasons that are material and obvious, but if you turn on the TV, the only issues our political and media intelligentsia find time to talk about are drag queens, QAnon crackpots, the sexual misadventures of partisan pseudo-celebrities, and other such sparkly hysterias. It's all ludicrous political stagecraft that has absolutely nothing to do with the lives of normal Americans, to say nothing of the weakest and most miserable. These conditions, which constitute a clear cultural disease, are so ugly and glaring that a diagnostic report like this really shouldn't be necessary. Kurt Hartman (illustrator).…

Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. If cats really did have nine lives, none would live all of them as fully as Buffy, an orange tabby from the suburbs of Chicago. In the course of his lifetime, Buffy was a bartender, a judge, a DJ, a teacher, and a dental hygienist. Like many who live and work in a city, he spent his days eating breakfast, commuting on public transit, going grocery shopping, and enjoying a cold beverage at the end of a long day. There were the chores--mowing the lawn, chopping firewood--but then on weekends, he laid out at the beach, took the kayak out on the water, went fishing, and relaxed by listening to music. Follow Buffy along on 100 of his adventures, depicted in full-color photography, and learn what it means to make the most of all nine lives. …

Paperback. Zustand: Good. After his mother's death, Travis Keating and his father move to Ratchet, Newfoundland, to start a new life. Some life. Travis soon discovers that only a few oddballs show any interest in him: Cole, a talker who soon makes himself scarce; Hector, a strange kid whose ears stick out; and Prinny, a girl as scraggly as her skinny ponytail. Nobody you can really call a friend. And then there's Hud, the toughest, nastiest bully in school, who hates "townies" and promises to make Travis's life an utter misery. But Travis doesn't care. He's got his "funeral face, a tight mask that gives away nothing and allows him to hide his feelings. Funeral face comes in handy, especially with parents and other adults who think they know what you're feeling every minute of the day. But funeral face can also make him reckless, and Travis decides to visit the dangerous Gulley Cove, with its treacherous wharf and its tumbledown fish shacks, which some of the kids say are haunted. Instead of ghosts, Travis discovers a colony of feral cats, sickly and starving, and unused to kindness. Putting aside his own problems to care for them is about to bring Travis more satisfaction-and more danger-than he ever would have thought possible. A stunning first children's novel, The Nine Lives of Travis Keating is a moving story about coping with grief. But more than that, it's about belonging, learning to be a friend, and finding bravery in the most unexpected of places.…

Zustand: Good. NATIONAL BESTSELLER * NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY SUSPENSE MAGAZINE Rita Mae Brown and her feline co-author Sneaky Pie Brown return with a mystery starring Mary Minor "Harry" Haristeen, intrepid kitty sleuths Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, and Tee Tucker, the ever-faithful crime-solving corgi. This time around, Harry and her animal friends track a killer whose trail has gone as cold as the weather in December. NINE LIVES TO DIE Winter has come to Crozet, Virginia, bringing with it a fresh blanket of snow. Harry and her husband, Fair, are hip deep in their usual end-of-the-year activities: distributing food to needy residents, and shopping for outfits for the Silver Linings youth organization's annual fundraising gala. But buried beneath the white stuff are dark secrets from Crozet's past--and Harry and her posse of pet detectives are determined to sniff them out. Two Silver Linings mentors have been found dead in suspicious circumstances. If that weren't enough to chill the bones of the locals, a pair of severed human fingers has turned up in a pencil jar in the bookkeeper's office at St. Cyril's church. What does this grisly display have to do with the mysterious disappearance of Harry's voluptuous high school Latin teacher, a quarter of a century ago? Maybe nothing. But when the animals make another gruesome discovery in the woods behind Harry's farm, it becomes clear that terrible crimes have been committed in Crozet--and somebody's gone to great lengths to cover them up. It's time to stop shoveling snow and start digging for clues. The truth will be revealed. A cold case will be solved. And a twenty-five-year-old love triangle is about to get untangled. The weather outside may be frightful, but Harry and her four-legged friends refuse to be spooked off the case. Praise for Nine Lives to Die "Witty and entertaining . . . a recipe for continued success and an engaging read."--Richmond Times-Dispatch "The unabashed loves of [Rita Mae Brown's] life . . . are infectious. Perhaps because they are so clearly heartfelt, it's easy to be swept up in the glory of her passions."--New York Journal of Books "Murder and mayhem are the order of the day in bestseller [Rita Mae] Brown's well-plotted twenty-second Mrs. Murphy mystery. . . . Brown's idyllic world, with its Christian values, talking animals, and sympathetic middle-aged pet owners, has understandably struck a chord with many readers."--Publishers Weekly "Rita Mae Brown, along with . . . Sneaky Pie, have made Harry Harristeen and her feline companion, Mrs. Murphy, household names."--Library Journal Praise for the Mrs. Murphy mysteries "As feline collaborators go, you couldn't ask for better than Sneaky Pie Brown."--The New York Times Book Review.…

Paperback. Zustand: Good. The cats of America are under siege! Long gone are the good old days when a cat's biggest worries were mean dogs or a bath. Modern cats must confront satanists, online predators, the possibility of needing to survive in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and countless other threats to their nine lives. For over four decades, the American Association of Patriots have stood at the vanguard of our country's defense by helping to prepare our nation's cat owners for the difficult conversations they dread having with their pets. Written in a simple Q&A format, How to Talk to Your Cat About Gun Safety answers crucial questions such as, "What is the right age to talk to my cat about the proper use of firearms?" and "What are the benefits of my cat living a lifestyle of abstinence?" and especially "Why does my cat need to use the internet? Can't he just play with yarn like cats used to do?" Our country--and our cats--stand at a precipice. It will take courage, and it will take hard work, but armed with the knowledge within these pages, we can make our cats--and America--great again.…

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * A woman who longs to avoid risk at all cost learns that men who love danger are the most exciting in this moving novel from New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel. After a carefree childhood, Mary Margaret Kelly came of age in the shadow of grief. Her father, a dashing daredevil Air Force pilot, died when she was nine. Maggie saw her mother struggle to put their lives back together. As the family moved from one city to the next, her mother warned her to beware of daredevil men and avoid risk at all cost. Following her mother's advice, and forgoing the magic of first love with a high school boyfriend who was too wild to feel safe, Maggie instead sought out all the things her mother had lost--a predictable partner, a stable home, and a regular paycheck. She chose to marry a dependable, kind man who was a reliable husband and successful accountant. Together they had a son and found happiness in a conventional suburban life. Until tragedy struck again. Now on her own, feeling a sense of adventure for the first time, Maggie decides to face her fears, setting off on a whirlwind trip from San Francisco to Rome, Paris, and Monaco. But when her travels reconnect her with the very same irresistible, thrill-seeking man she's spent thirty years trying to forget, Maggie becomes terrified that rushing into love and sharing his life may very well end in disaster. But ultimately, while Maggie tries to outrun her fears and painful memories of her past, fate will surprise her in the most astounding of ways, as she walks the tightrope between danger and courage, and between wisdom and love. …

Hardback. Zustand: Good. Like all cats, Comet knew he had been born with nine lives. But he'd never thought much about it until the day he lost life number one in a flower garden on Nantucket. He'd spent lazy days wandering all over the island, not calling any one place home. Now he knows it is time to settle down. But Comet's lives begin to disappear all too quickly, as he gets into one humorous predicament after another. Then comes the day of the big hurricane. Beautiful island scenes--sandy beaches, hillside flower gardens, seaside trails, villages, and the sea itself are set within exquisite shell borders. Once again Jan Brett brings her originality and charm to a familiar setting as she inhabits her Nantucket with colorful canine residents, among them a shaggy sheepdog captain who travels through the story and into the borders looking for a friend to live with him and his lighthouse cat.…

Hardback. Zustand: Good. Vicki Myron follows up her #1 New York Times bestseller Dewey with stories of cats who inspire their owners and includes two brand-new Dewey stories Dewey's Nine Lives offers nine funny, inspiring, and heartwarming stories about cats--all told from the perspective of Dewey's Mom, librarian Vicki Myron. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World was a blockbuster bestseller and a publishing phenomenon. It has sold nearly a million copies, spawned three children's books, and will be the basis for an upcoming movie. No doubt about it, Dewey has created a community. Dewey touched readers everywhere, who realized that no matter how difficult their lives might seem, or how ordinary their talents, they can-and should-make a positive difference to those around them. Now, Dewey is back, with even more heartwarming moments and life lessons to share. Hardback. Zustand: Good. NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A woman who longs to avoid risk at all cost learns that men who love danger are the most exciting in this moving novel from New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel. But ultimately, while Maggie tries to outrun her fears and painful memories of her past, fate will surprise her in the most astounding of ways, as she walks the tightrope between danger and courage, and between wisdom and love.…
