Erstausgabe
Full Leather. Zustand: Fair binding. First Edition. Two volumes bound together in one. Previously owned by Noah Knowles Davis of Philadelphia, his wife Mary Young, given to her before their marriage, and thereafter presented to their daughter, Marelle D. Brooks. Noah's father was a minister of the Baptist Tract Society, and early supporter of the American Baptist Publication Society, while the son followed a career in education, teaching moral philosophy at the University of Virginia, publishing a number of works on logic, ethics, and psychology, many of which were adopted as university textbooks. With a laid in letter to Noah K. Davis laid in, from E. W. Wetmore, professor of Natural Science at the State Normal College of Albany, NY, congratulating him on his fine work with his Elements of Inductive Logic, and asking for clarification on a question of induction posed by a student. Color nameplate of Mary Young on the verso of the front endpaper, and her name on one of the two leather labels. Lacking the general title page, about 62 pp. at the rear of Vol. II, and perhaps also the preliminaries of Vol. II. With a handwritten index at the rear of Vol. II, pasted onto a modern endpaper. Collates as such, presently, with faults: 6, [2], 1-240, [4]; 178, [1] pp. Full suede, with creased leather labels, and Japanese tissue repair to the front joint and ends of the spine. Fair binding.
