Barrie; it was directed by Herbert Brenon (who doesn't rate a mention in the introduction). THE SCARLET LETTER (1926) starred Lillian Gish and Lars Hanson, and was directed by Victor Seastrom. THE LAST COMMAND (1928) was directed by Josef von Sternberg and starred Emil Jannings; it was one of two films (the other being THE WAY OF ALL FLESH) that earned Jannings the first Academy Award for Best Actor.…
