Presumably a review copy sent to notable British folklorist Katharine Briggs, according to Burford bookseller's ticket pasted in on front free-endpaper. B&W illustrations by Charles W. Steward throughout. An uncommon and influential children's fantasy title by a transgender author.

A collection of children's fantasy stories by the British writer Nicholas Stuart Gray, who has recently been rediscovered with the help of Neil Gaiman who called him "one of the most brilliant children's authors of the 20th century." Nearly all of Gray's books are surprisingly difficult to find in the first edition and nice condition.
