Opositor a la dictadura de Primo de Rivera, pasó por el anarquismo y el anarcosindicalismo hasta recalar en el republicanismo de Martínez Barrio. Miembro del comité peninsular de la FAI, secretario de la Confederación Regional del Trabajo de Andalucía y luego concejal y primer teniente de alcalde de Sevilla por Unión Republicana. Fue asesinado en los primeros días de la Guerra Civil por los golpistas, al igual que la mayor parte de integrantes de aquella corporación municipal. El historiador José Luis Gutiérrez Molina, uno de los investigadores más reconocidos en el ámbito de la memoria histórica, rescata en Miguel Mendiola. La vida olvidada de un anarquista republicano la figura y legado de este destacado hombre de organización que participó en numerosos e importantes episodios de la vida social y política de Sevilla, Andalucía y España entre 1929 y 1936.
