The author's first novel, narrated by the recently deceased Olivia - set in New York City, where the author was born and lived, her early career largely consisting of journalism, including a spell as an editor at Vogue magazine. The British edition is made desirable by the presence of the striking John Buckland-Wright dustjacket, not used for its US counterpart. (Reid C5).
