pp. viii, 342. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Thomas More by PHILIP AUDINET after HOLBEIN; (vi), 356. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Erasmus, by the same artists. In later full calf, rebacked in 1988 retaining the old labels, marbled end-papers, the covers with a decorative impressed border and central device, rubbed at the edges and with some surface scratches and rubbed patches, book-label of SCOTSTOUN [HOUSE] and the signature on each half-title of MR. OSWALD, SCOTSTOUN, a very good set. *SCOTSTOUN HOUSE stood to the south of Dumbarton Road near the ground on which Ardsloy Place was subsequently formed. It had been built in the early 18th century by William Walkinshaw of Barrowfield and was acquired by Richard and Alexander Oswald in 1748. It was extended in 1825 to designs prepared by the architect David Hamilton for Elizabeth Oswald (1767-1864) and was demolished in the 1890s during the construction of the Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway. Thomas Annan photographed the house in 1870.
