The founder, Solveig Stone, was inspired by an exhibition of marbled papers by Douglas Cockerell, a British bookbinder and author. Since then, each sheet of their marbled paper is made individually, by hand, using traditional methods that date back many centuries. Each range is a limited-edition run designed in their studio in Wiltshire. Compton marbling also supply a select range of hand-marbled papers to bookbinders, conservationists and furniture restorers and interior designers around the world.
