Softcover. Zustand: Very Good. Oblong octavo measuring 5.5" x 7". String-tied flexible tan leather with "Photos" and a flower illustration hand tooled into the front cover. Contains 70 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 3.5" x 3.5" and 3" x 5.5" with captions. Very good album with chips, tears, and rubbing with near fine photographs. A photo album kept during the summer of 1905 on the Lyon Farm in Katonah, New York. The opening page reads, "The Lyon Farm Katonah, N.Y. Summer 1905" in black ink and a later blue ink inscription reads, "Dearest Lillies took these pictures, i made notes Helen." The photos are taken by someone with a clear interest in the art and are well-composed views of the farm and family members. The beginning of the album photos of the house from various angles are shown with captions describing the direction, "house from the west." Another photo is captioned "Helen and mother with âSpotty'" and shows the two women in a horse drawn carriage led by their horse, Spotty. They created a cushioned space on the front porch which they called their "lauai," it seems that someone had recently returned from Hawaii and a few pages mention the state and some of the language. Many of the photos show the landscape of the farm; one of these is of "Bedford House" which "was the original house of John Jay." Helen is photographed sitting for a portrait in an Asian inspired dress with the caption, "Helen as a Japanese." Another group of photos showing Helen in this dress reads, "a geisha girl." The album also features the family pet cat and portraits of the family taken around the house. Later in the album there's a photo of the women in a new car. A nice collection of better than average amateur photography of a turn of the century family.
