Nuremberg, les héritiers de feu G. W. Knorr, 1779. Folio (54.5 x 38.0 cm). 13 pp.; nine very beautiful hand-coloured engraved plates. = This is the ichthyological section of rare first edition of the special very large paper print for the French market of Knorr's Deliciae Naturae Selectae oder auserlesenes Naturaliencabinet. It…is a rare, truly great and sumptuously illustrated German natural history book from the 'Golden Age' of southern German printing. The nine plates, numbered H, H.I-H.VIII, were drawn and engraved by Christian Leinberger, J. C. Keller, and one by Georg Wolfgang Knorr himself. They are much larger than in Knorr's other works. The last plate shows a seal, which, although largely aquatic, is of course a mammal, not a fish. Last text leaf wanting. All plates clean and brightly coloured. The text leaves are in a similar state. In all this is a splendid set of all the plates. Nissen ZBI, 2227.
