The Codex Aureas of Lorsch or "Lor…sch Gospels," named after the German monastery where it was likely created, is an illuminated Gospel volume penned in Latin in two-column format between 778 and 820. Part of the original resides at the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana in Rome, the other part at the Biblioteca Documentara Batthyaneum in Alba Julia, Rumania, with a couple of the ivory panels at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London -- but all appear together here for the first time as a single unified text in this large and magnificent production. Colophon at rear notes limitation to 1,000 numbered copies (here unnumbered).
