Covers have some wear and soiling. The Feynman Lectures on Physics is based on lectures by Richard P. Feynman, a Nobel laureate who has sometimes been called "The Great Explainer". The lectures were presented before undergraduate students at the California Institute of Technology, during 1961-1963. The book's co-authors are Feynman, Robert B. Leighton, and Matthew Sands. The Feynman Lectures on Physics is perhaps the most significant physics book ever written. This material covers the first year of the two-year introductory course taken by all Caltech freshmen and sophomores, and was followed in 1962-63 by a similar series covering the second year. The lectures constitute a major part of a fundamental revision of the introductory course, carried out over a four year period. The need for a basic revision arose both from the rapid development of physics in recent decades and from the fact that entering freshmen had shown a steady increase in mathematical ability as a result of improvement sin high school course mathematical content. The Feynman Lectures were produced very quickly, working from and expanding on tape recordings and blackboard photos of the 1961-1963 course lectures.
