Thomas Sheridan, son of Thomas Sheridan, friend of DeanSwift, was born at Quilca, in the county of Cavan, in 1721. See Webb.P475. ~ Elocution emerged as a formal discipline during the eighteenthcentury. One of its important figures was Thomas Sheridan, actor andfather of Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Thomas Sheridan's lectures onelocution, collected in Lectures on Elocution (1762) and his Lectures onReading (1775), provided directions for marking and reading aloudpassages from literature.
