Bifolium: title page, two interior pages printing a detailed price list for lumber in a variety of sizes, for a variety of purposes, all prices printed in red, verso of integral leaf illustrated from a bird's-eye view of the plant. The company operated in Brookhaven, 1899-1910. We were unable to find any company publications on OCLC. Original decorated yellow wrappers. Very good.

Illustrated with three full page engravings [including the titleleaf] and numerous engravings in the text. Bound with the original calf preserved to the boards, but with 20th century morocco to the spine and corners. Old owner's number inserted to the new pastedown. The titleleaf has been strenghened with paper on the verso. Leaf I6 [the allegorical plate of the river Nile] has been heavily restored with a part missing and some loss of text to the verso. Tiny burnhole to the margin of leaf R6, not affecting text. Leaves X5-6 with restoration the lower corners, not affecting text. Leaf Aa4 with restoration along the edges of the statue of Emperor Commodus, not affecting the engraving nor the text to the verso. Some leaves with dampstaining. A good+ copy. * Highly interesting book on the Middle East and especially on Egypt; Sandys [1568-1648] had to make quite a bit of guessing regarding the pyramids and the history of Egypt.** The ESTC entry [S114571] calls for two plates besides the titleleaf, whereof one is an engraved map. This copy collates differently, as the map is replaced with the allegorical engraving of the Nile.

Partie Orientale Nouvelle France, Canada, 1755, Homann Heirs This is the Homann edition of Bellin's definitive map of eastern Canada and New England showing the mouth of the St. Lawrence, the length of the river, the Maritime provinces and French claims in the region. This detailed map shows the extent of French exploration in the region. Size of the leaf: 53x61 cm., very good condition, printed on thick paper, clean margins, only one small spot.

Albumen paper photographs (each approximately 157 × 207 mm); the road scene has been printed from a broken negative, and a hairline crack and small fingerprint are visible in the central portion of the sky; the top margin of the mount on this side has some spots of residual glue, and the bottom edge of the mount on the other side has a few trifling surface chips; overall, the condition is excellent. The photographer's credit and reference number ('Sweet | Adelaide | 335') is scratched in the negative of the City Bridge (the second bridge built over the Torrens at that spot, in 1877). Oarsmen in four boats in the foreground have clearly paused for the event, as have the numerous pedestrians on the bridge. The second photograph shows Adelaide's twin towers - the Town Hall and the GPO - in the distance, but the most prominent features of the scene are the tall eucalypts lining the road, and the cart-horses drinking at a shaded trough. Captain Samuel White Sweet (1825-1886), was a sea captain, surveyor and photographer: after he was censured when his ship ran aground in 1875, he 'retired from the sea, opened a photographic studio in Adelaide and concentrated on landscapes. With his horse-drawn dark room he travelled through South Australia taking hundreds of skilful pictures of the outback, stations and homesteads. The colony's foremost documentary photographer of the 1870s, in the early 1880s he was one of the first to use the new dry-plate process' ('Australian Dictionary of Biography').
